Sin Nombre

Sin Nombre follows two young lives on a collision course in Mexico and Central America. Sayra, a Honduran teenager played by Paulina Gaitán, joins her estranged father and uncle on a journey north toward the United States, riding on the roofs of freight trains with crowds of other migrants. El Casper, played by Edgar Flores, belongs to a violent gang whose leader, Lil' Mago, forces him and a younger recruit, El Smiley, into a robbery aboard those same trains. When the gangleader turns on the migrants, Casper acts against his own people, and he and Sayra end up bound together as fugitives, with the gang pursuing them.

The 2009 film was the feature debut of director and screenwriter Cary Joji Fukunaga, who went on to make Jane Eyre, Beasts of No Nation and No Time to Die, in that order. It was produced by Amy Kaufman with Focus Features, Canana and Primary Productions, and runs 96 minutes. The credited cast numbers 32, among them Kristyan Ferrer, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Gerardo Taracena and Guillermo Villegas.

Released in March 2009, the film took in about 5 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.5 out of 10 from roughly 35,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.6 out of 10 from 806 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7 out of 10 from 119 reviews is close to the audience scores, suggesting broad agreement on its merits.
