Lost in Space
Short description
In 2058, Earth's resources are nearly exhausted and the planet has only a few decades left. Professor John Robinson and his family are sent aboard the Jupiter 2 toward Alpha Prime, a distant planet where they are to prepare a way for humanity to relocate. Their mission is compromised by Dr. Zachary Smith, who boards the ship with orders to sabotage it. Major Don West, the pilot, is drawn into the crisis, and the vessel ends up thrown off course, wandering without a fixed route through unknown space.
Stephen Hopkins directed the film, which came after The Ghost and the Darkness in his filmography. Akiva Goldsman wrote the screenplay with Irwin Allen, and Hopkins and Goldsman produced alongside Carla Fry. William Hurt plays John Robinson, with Mimi Rogers, Heather Graham and Lacey Chabert as the rest of the family, Matt LeBlanc as Don West and Gary Oldman as Smith.
The film had a budget of 80 million USD and took about 136 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.2/10 from 78,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.4/10 from 1,377 votes. A film critics' rating stands at 4.9/10 from 85 reviews, slightly below the audience scores.
