Into the Storm

Into the Storm takes place in the small town of Silverton, where an ordinary day is shattered when a series of powerful tornadoes tears through the area. As residents scramble for shelter, meteorologists warn that the worst is still ahead. While most people look for safety, a group of professional storm chasers heads toward the danger, hoping to capture the event on camera. Among them are a documentary filmmaker, a meteorologist and their camera operators. Meanwhile, a father and his son search for the boy's brother and his girlfriend, who have gone missing as the storms close in.

The film was directed by Steven Quale, his third feature after Aliens of the Deep and Final Destination 5, working from a screenplay by John Swetnam. Richard Armitage plays Gary Morris, with Sarah Wayne Callies as the meteorologist Allison, Matt Walsh as filmmaker Pete, and Max Deacon, Alycia Debnam-Carey and Nathan Kress among the large cast. It was produced by Todd Garner for Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, RatPac Entertainment and Village Roadshow Pictures.

Released in August 2014, the film had a budget of 50 million dollars and took in about 161 million dollars worldwide. Audience scores are modest, with 5.8 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 74,000 votes and 6.1 out of 10 on TMDB. A film critics' rating of 4.3 out of 10 from 157 reviews is lower than both audience scores.
