Powder Room

Powder Room follows Sam, whose life is thrown off balance over the course of a single big night out. When she meets up with old college friends, she is pushed to reconsider where her life has ended up and puts on an elaborate front, trying to convince both herself and the others that everything is going well for her. Her close but chaotic group of friends gets involved, and the careful act she has built starts to come apart as the evening descends into drinking, smoking and messy encounters in the club toilets. Confronted with some uncomfortable truths, Sam has to work out how to stay true to herself and what she actually wants going forward.

The British comedy was released in 2013 and runs 86 minutes. It was directed by MJ Delaney from a screenplay by Rachel Hirons, and produced by Damian Jones, James Cotton and Nichola Martin. Sheridan Smith plays Sam, with Jaime Winstone, Kate Nash, Oona Chaplin, Riann Steele and Sarah Hoare among the cast. Its ratings are low on both platforms: on IMDb it holds 4.7 out of 10 from 851 votes, and on TMDB 4.5 out of 10 from 25 votes. Those figures point to a film that found a limited audience and did not win over the viewers who did see it.
