The Nut Job

An independent squirrel named Surly causes trouble in his home park and is banished to the city, where he has to find his own food with winter approaching. He and a rat companion come across Maury's Nut Store, which appears to hold enough nuts to keep them fed for a long time. Their plan to take the store's stock draws in the animals of the park, who need supplies for the cold months, and the group sets out on a large-scale theft. What they do not realise is that the shop is a front for criminals with a much bigger scheme of their own.

The Nut Job is a Canadian, American and Korean animated adventure from 2014, directed by Peter Lepeniotis, who wrote the screenplay with Lorne Cameron and produced it with Jung Woo-kyung and Graham Moloy. It was Lepeniotis's first feature as director; his later films are Gnome Alone and Zombie Town. The voice cast includes Will Arnett as Surly, Brendan Fraser as Grayson, Liam Neeson as Raccoon, Katherine Heigl as Andie, Stephen Lang as King and Maya Rudolph as Precious.

Made for about 42 million dollars, the film took roughly 121 million dollars worldwide, a substantial return on its production cost. Critics rated it 4 out of 10 across 98 reviews, while audiences are divided: on TMDB it holds 5.9 out of 10 from over a thousand votes, whereas on IMDb it shows 8.8 out of 10 from a very small number of votes.
