Short description
Prim professor Immanuel Rath finds some of his students ogling racy photos of cabaret performer Lola Lola and visits a local club, The Blue Angel, in an attempt to catch them there. Seeing Lola perform, the teacher is filled with lust, eventually resigning his position at the school to marry the young woman. However, his marriage to a coquette -- whose job is to entice men -- proves to be more difficult than Rath imagined.
What's left behind the scenes
- A free adaptation of the novel “Professor Unrat, or the End of a Tyrant” (1905) by German writer and public figure Heinrich Mann (1871-1950).
- Kete Haak (1897-1986) was initially cast in the role of Lola-Lola, but was replaced by Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992) just before filming began.
- The English-dubbed version of the film was considered lost for many years, until a copy was discovered in German archives. It was restored and shown at the Berlin and Beyond film festival in San Francisco on January 19, 2009.
