Wish I Was Here

Aidan Bloom is a 35-year-old actor in Los Angeles who has not found steady work or a clear sense of purpose. Money is tight, his wife Sarah carries most of the financial burden, and his brother Noah keeps to himself. Aidan still daydreams about the futuristic space knight he imagined becoming as a boy. When his ailing father, Gabe, can no longer pay for his two children's private schooling, and the public alternative is in poor shape, Aidan reluctantly decides to teach the children at home. His first attempts go badly, so he tries a more personal approach, using his own lessons about life, and in the process begins to recover parts of himself he had lost.

Wish I Was Here is a 2014 American comedy-drama directed by Zach Braff, who also stars as Aidan and wrote the screenplay with Adam J. Braff. It is the second of the four features Braff has directed, following Garden State and preceding Going in Style and A Good Person. Kate Hudson plays Sarah, with Joey King as Grace, Mandy Patinkin as Gabe, Ashley Greene as Janine and Josh Gad as Noah among the 28 credited cast members. Made for about 6 million dollars, it grossed roughly the same amount worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from around 40,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5 out of 10 from 793 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.3 out of 10 from 132 reviews.
