10 Items or Less

10 Items or Less follows a Hollywood actor who has grown hesitant about his career and takes on the idea of playing a supermarket manager in an independent production. To research the part, he visits a grocery store in a working-class Latino neighborhood of Los Angeles, where he meets Scarlet, an energetic cashier. Stranded without his car or phone, he accepts a ride from her, and the two spend the day together. She has a job interview approaching, and he helps her prepare, rediscovering his own enthusiasm for acting along the way.

Brad Silberling directed and wrote the film, which was released in 2006 and runs 81 minutes. It is his fifth feature, arriving between Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and Land of the Lost. Morgan Freeman plays the actor, credited simply as Him, while Paz Vega plays Scarlet. Jonah Hill, Bobby Cannavale, Anne Dudek and Jennifer Echols appear in supporting roles among a cast of 21. Silberling produced with Julie Lynn and Lori McCreary.

The film drew modest audience scores, with 6.5 out of 10 on IMDb from around 17,000 votes and 6.2 out of 10 on TMDB from 287 votes. A critics' rating of 6.4 out of 10 from 59 reviews places critical and audience responses close together.
