Khuda Kay Liye

Khuda Kay Liye follows Pakistanis and Muslims navigating the pressures that followed the September 11 attacks. Two brothers who once performed together as popular singers in Lahore have taken separate paths: one has moved to the United States to study music in Chicago, where he marries an American woman, while the other has turned to religious extremism. Meanwhile, a young London woman in love with an Englishman is taken by her father on a trip to Afghanistan, where she is forced into marriage against her will. The film sets these stories against the divide between fundamentalists and liberal Muslims, and the suspicion that educated, Western-dressed Muslims face from both sides.

Shoaib Mansoor wrote, produced and directed the film, his first as director; a second feature, Verna, followed in 2017. Shaan Shahid and Fawad Khan play the brothers, with Iman Ali as Maryam and Naseeruddin Shah and Rasheed Naz in supporting roles. Released in July 2007, the drama runs 168 minutes and was produced in Pakistan by Percept Picture Company and Shoman Productions.

On IMDb it holds 8.3 out of 10 from around 9,700 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.6 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 35 voters. The large gap reflects a far larger and more enthusiastic audience on IMDb than the handful of ratings recorded on TMDB.
