Five single mothers from different backgrounds are thrown together when their children get into trouble at school. Rather than drift apart once the matter is dealt with, they form a support group to help one another through the pressures of raising children alone and the personal problems each of them is facing. The comedy comes from their clashes and missteps as much as from the difficulties they share.
Tyler Perry directed and wrote the film, the eleventh of the twenty-nine features he has directed in chronological order, arriving between Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor and Boo! A Madea Halloween. The cast includes Nia Long, Amy Smart, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Zulay Henao, Cocoa Brown and Katherine Shepler, with thirty performers credited in all. Lionsgate released it through Perry's own studio.
Made for 8 million USD, the film took about 16 million USD worldwide, a modest return. Audiences are divided on it: on IMDb it holds 5.5/10 from roughly 7,400 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6/10 from a much smaller group of 178. A critics' rating of 4.5/10 from 27 reviews places it below even the IMDb audience figure.
