Stan Helsing

Stan Helsing is a horror-comedy spoof centred on a video store employee who learns on Halloween that he is descended from the famous monster hunter Van Helsing. Setting out for a costume party with his best friend, his ex-girlfriend and a masseuse, he instead finds himself confronted by parodies of well-known screen killers, among them Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Chucky, Jason and Michael Myers. The night turns into a fight against these figures, with Stan cast as the unlikely defender of his town.

The film was directed by Bo Zenga, who also wrote the screenplay, and produced by Kirk Shaw. It stars Steve Howey in the title role, with Diora Baird, Kenan Thompson, Desi Lydic and Leslie Nielsen among the cast, which numbers 45 credited performers. It runs 90 minutes and was released in October 2009. Stan Helsing was Zenga's first film as director, followed years later by The Love Story.

Made in Canada and the United States, the film took in about 1 million USD worldwide. Its audience scores are modest: on TMDB it holds 4.2 out of 10 from 507 votes, a reception in keeping with its limited commercial returns.
