Short description

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse continues the story of Bella Swan, a high school student in Forks, Washington, who is caught between her love for the vampire Edward Cullen and her friendship with Jacob Black, a werewolf. As graduation nears, a wave of killings in nearby Seattle signals a growing threat, and the vampire Victoria, seeking revenge for her mate's death, is gathering an army of newly turned vampires. The Cullens and the Quileute werewolves, long-standing enemies, must set aside their feud and work together to protect Bella, while her choice between the two men in her life risks reigniting the conflict between their kinds.

David Slade directed the film, which followed his earlier features Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night in his filmography. Melissa Rosenberg wrote the screenplay, and Karen Rosenfelt and Wyck Godfrey produced. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner lead a cast of 47 credited performers, among them Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria, Dakota Fanning as Jane and Billy Burke as Charlie Swan, with 239 crew members credited. Made for 68 million dollars, the film took 698 million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.1 from around 280,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.2 from more than 9,000 votes. A critics' rating of 5.5 from 255 reviews places it close to the audience scores on both platforms.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Stephenie Meyer named the young werewolf appearing in the third part of the Saga after her son – Seth.
  • Tom Felton and Channing Tatum were considered for the role of Riley.
  • The replacement of Rachelle Lefevre caused outrage among many fans of the saga: they believed that Summit Entertainment cast Bryce Dallas Howard, a more well-known actress, in the role of Victoria for the third installment solely for commercial reasons. The official explanation is that Rachelle Lefevre signed on to film "Barney's Version" during a period when work on "Eclipse" was already scheduled.
  • Rumor has it that the directing position for "Eclipse" was offered to Drew Barrymore.
  • *Eclipse* is the fifth film in which Bryce Dallas Howard replaces another actress. In *The Village*, Bryce replaced Kirsten Dunst, in *Manderlay* – Nicole Kidman, in *The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond* – Lindsay Lohan, in *Terminator 4* – Charlotte Gainsbourg, and in the third part of *Twilight* – Rachelle Lefevre.
  • In "Eclipse," Kristen Stewart wears a wig, as she had previously filmed "The Runaways," for which she cut and dyed her hair.
  • Chris Weitz, the director of the second installment, physically didn't have time to film "Eclipse" as he was busy with the post-production of "New Moon." Ultimately, David Slade, the director of "Hard Candy" and "30 Days of Night," took on the role.
  • According to unofficial sources, Vanessa Anne Hudgens and K'orianka Kilcher auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater, while Tyler Posey and Jean-Luc Bilodeau were considered for the role of Seth.
  • Miranda Kerr was considered for the role of Leah Clearwater.
  • The film is based on Stephanie Meyer's novel "Eclipse" (2007) from the "Twilight" series.
