Short description

A warlock who serves Satan arrives in the present day to gather a set of magical stones. Separately the stones are useless, but joined together they can either break open the gates of Hell or seal them for another six hundred years. He has only the seven days between a lunar and a solar eclipse to find them. Standing against him are two teenagers, Kenny and Samantha, the last descendants of a line of druid priests, who learn that they alone possess the power to stop him.

Anthony Hickox directed the film, which followed Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth and Waxwork II: Lost in Time in his filmography. Sam Bernard and Kevin Rock wrote the screenplay, and Peter Abrams and Robert L. Levy produced it for Tapestry Films and Trimark Pictures. Julian Sands plays the warlock, with Chris Young and Paula Marshall as Kenny and Samantha, and Joanna Pacula, Steve Kahan and R. G. Armstrong in supporting roles.

Released in 1993, the film runs 98 minutes and mixes action, fantasy, horror and science fiction. Made for about 3 million dollars, it returned roughly 4 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.4 out of 10 from around 7,500 votes, and on TMDB the same 5.4 from about 200 votes. A small sample of critics rated it considerably lower, at 2.7 out of 10.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, Frank LaLoggia was considered as the film's director, but his vision for the future film seemed too ambitious to the studio executives, and they decided not to use his services.
  • During the end credits, the song “Something Wicked” by Nuclear Assault plays.
