The Attorney

Set in South Korea during the early 1980s, this historical drama follows Song Woo-seok, a lawyer in Busan who initially practices tax law solely for financial gain. His priorities shift when he decides to represent Park Jin-woo, a student activist who has been tortured and falsely accused of a crime. This case forces Woo-seok to confront the political unrest and student protests of the era, fundamentally changing his perspective on civil liberties.

The film was directed by Yang Woo-seok, marking the first entry in a directorial career that later included Steel Rain, Steel Rain 2: Summit, and About Family. Yang also co-wrote the screenplay with Yoon Hyun-ho. The movie stars Song Kang-ho in the lead role, supported by a cast that includes Kim Yeong-ae, Oh Dal-su, Yim Si-wan, Kwak Do-won, and Jo Min-ki.
