Batman: Assault on Arkham is an animated action thriller set in Gotham City. When the Riddler steals classified government information and is locked away in Arkham Asylum, the secret operative Amanda Waller assembles a team of imprisoned criminals to break into the facility and retrieve it. Deadshot leads the group, which includes Harley Quinn and other villains drawn from Gotham's underworld. Batman, meanwhile, is pursuing his own investigation, and the two missions collide inside Arkham's walls. The situation grows more dangerous when the Joker becomes involved, threatening both the asylum and the wider city, leaving Batman to stop him.
The film was directed by Jay Oliva and Ethan Spaulding. For Oliva it was the tenth of the thirteen films he has directed, arriving between Justice League: War in 2014 and Batman vs. Robin in 2015. Heath Corson wrote the screenplay, and the voice cast includes Kevin Conroy as Batman, Neal McDonough as Deadshot, Hynden Walch as Harley Quinn, Matthew Gray Gubler as the Riddler and Troy Baker as the Joker, among twenty credited performers. It runs seventy-six minutes and was produced by DC Entertainment, DC Comics, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Premiere.
Released in August 2014, the film took about five million dollars worldwide. Audiences received it well: it holds a rating of 7.4 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 40,000 votes, and 7.3 out of 10 on TMDB from over 1,200 votes, a consistent showing across both.
