Short description

Faults follows Claire, a young woman who has fallen under the influence of a mysterious cult that shares the film's title. Her parents, unwilling to accept the distance she has put between them and the rest of her life, hire Ansel Roth, a once-respected expert on mind control and deprogramming whose career and personal life have since collapsed. Ansel takes the job, but Claire proves more resistant than he expects, and their struggle of wills gradually turns into something neither of them controls.

Riley Stearns wrote and directed the film, his first feature after the short Casque and the second of four features he has made through Dual. Leland Orser plays Ansel, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Claire; Winstead also produced alongside Keith Calder. Chris Ellis and Beth Grant appear as Claire's parents, while Jon Gries and Lance Reddick round out the cast. The film runs 90 minutes and blends comedy, crime, drama and thriller elements.

Faults drew a critics' rating of 7/10 from 37 reviews, while audiences give it 6.7/10 on IMDb and 6.6/10 on TMDB. Those figures place the film in solidly favorable territory across all three groups, with critics slightly warmer than viewers. It was released in 2014.
