Listen Up Philip

Philip is a writer whose second novel is about to be published, though frustration simmers as he waits. He feels crowded out of the city he chose as home, worn down by noise and people, by his strained relationship with his girlfriend Ashley, a photographer, and by his own reluctance to promote the book. Relief arrives when his literary idol, Ike Zimmerman, offers him the use of a secluded summer house. There Philip hopes to find quiet and devote himself to the subject he cares about most: himself.

Alex Ross Perry wrote and directed the film, his second feature as director according to the chronological record of his work. Jason Schwartzman plays Philip, with Elisabeth Moss as Ashley and Jonathan Pryce as Ike; Krysten Ritter, Joséphine de la Baume and Jess Weixler appear in supporting roles. The production was split between Greece and the United States, with five companies credited and a crew of fifty. It runs 109 minutes.
