Short description
Bored with the limited and tedious nature of provincial life in 19th-century France, the fierce and sensual Emma Bovary finds herself in calamitous debt and pursues scandalous sexual liaisons with absolute abandon. However, when her volatile lifestyle catches up to her, the lives of everyone around her are endangered.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on Gustave Flaubert's novel “Madame Bovary” (1856). After the novel was published in a journal, the author was accused of offending public morals and brought to trial. The scandalous notoriety of the work made it popular, and the acquittal on February 7, 1857, allowed for the novel’s publication as a separate book later that year.
