A Second Chance follows two Copenhagen police officers whose lives have taken different paths. Andreas is settled and content at home with his wife Anna and their young son, while his friend and colleague Simon, recently divorced, spends much of his free time drinking at a strip club. Called to a domestic dispute involving a drug-addicted couple, the officers expect a routine intervention. Instead, Andreas finds the couple's infant hidden in a closet, and the discovery unsettles him deeply. The contrast between the child's circumstances and his own family life pushes him toward a decision that defies both the law and reason, leaving the more volatile Simon to try to restore some sense of right and wrong.
Susanne Bier directed the film, working from a screenplay by Anders Thomas Jensen, with Sisse Graym Yorgensen producing. It arrived in 2015, between Serena and Bird Box in Bier's filmography, and continues her long collaboration with Jensen. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays Andreas opposite Ulrich Thomsen as Simon, with Maria Bonnevie as Anna and roles for Nikolaj Lie Kaas, May Andersen and Kirsten Lehfeldt. The Danish-Swedish production carried a budget of about 35 million dollars and returned roughly 12 million worldwide. Audiences rate it 6.8 on IMDb and 6.6 on TMDB, while critics were less enthusiastic at 5.8 from 25 reviews.
