Ninja

Casey, an American student of Ninjutsu in Japan, is sent back to New York by his Sensei to guard the Yoroi Bitsu, an armored chest holding the weapons of the last Koga Ninja. His fellow student Masazuka, expelled from the school years earlier, returns to seize the chest and the power that comes with it. When Masazuka also takes Sensei's daughter Namiko, Casey uses the chest as bait to draw his rival into a confrontation.

The film is directed by Isaac Florentine, the fifth of twelve features listed for him, following The Shepherd: Border Patrol and preceding Undisputed III: Redemption. Scott Adkins plays Casey, with Tsuyoshi Ihara as Masazuka, Mika Hijii as Namiko, Todd Jensen, Garrick Hagon and Togo Igawa. Boaz Davidson and Michael Hurst wrote the screenplay; Davidson produced with Les Weldon and Danny Lerner for Nu Image and Millennium Media. It runs 83 minutes.

Made for about 10 million dollars and released in October 2009, the film pairs a modest budget with a small-scale martial arts premise set between Japan and New York. Audience scores sit at 5.5 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 15,000 votes and 6.2 out of 10 on TMDB from far fewer votes. The wider IMDb sample points to a mixed response, while the smaller TMDB group rates it somewhat more favorably. A sequel followed in 2013.
