A Seattle couple, Lisa and Mike Davis, travel to New York to interview Tobi Powell, a former dancer who now teaches ballet at the Juilliard School. Tobi, who once performed in a lively Manhattan artists' community, agrees to take part in what is presented as research for a dissertation on dance. He is flattered by the attention at first, but the conversation in his apartment, filled with mementos of his past, gradually turns personal. As the questions move away from his career, the polite atmosphere breaks down and the real purpose of the visit comes into question for everyone involved.
The film is a screen adaptation of a Broadway play and was directed by Stephen Belber, who also wrote the screenplay. It is his second feature as director, following Management (2009). Patrick Stewart leads the cast as Tobi Powell, with Carla Gugino and Matthew Lillard as Lisa and Mike Davis, and supporting turns from Maduka Steady, Jaime Tirelli and Daphne Fernberger.
Match runs 92 minutes and was released in 2014. It is an American production from Permut Presentations, Whitewater Films, Tilted Windmill Productions and Sentinel Pictures, blending comedy and drama. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 59 votes, indicating a modest audience response.
