Short description
Monster Trucks follows Tripp Coley, a high school senior in a small American town who spends his time building a truck out of salvaged parts and dreaming of leaving home. After an accident at an oil drilling site releases a strange underground creature, Tripp discovers Creech, a speed-loving being with a talent for hiding inside vehicles. To keep his new friend safe from those who want to capture it, Tripp hides Creech under the hood of his truck, creating a vehicle with a living, super-powered engine. With help from his friend Meredith, Tripp sets out to protect Creech and get the creature back where it belongs.
The film is directed by Chris Wedge, following Ice Age, Robots and Epic in his filmography, from a screenplay by Derek Connolly. Lucas Till plays Tripp, with Jane Levy as Meredith, Amy Ryan, Rob Lowe, Danny Glover and Barry Pepper among the cast. It is a production of Paramount, Nickelodeon Movies, Paramount Animation and Disruption Entertainment.
Released in December 2016, the film had a budget of about 125 million dollars and took roughly 64 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.7 from around 20,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from just under a thousand votes, indicating a modest audience response. A critics' rating of 4.6 from 97 reviews places it below the audience scores.

- The film's premiere was originally scheduled for May 29, 2015, but was subsequently postponed several times.
- The film's plot is set in North Dakota, but the landscapes shown in the film bear little resemblance to those of the state. The film was shot in Canada.
