Under Suspicion

Set in late 1950s Britain, Under Suspicion follows Tony Aaron, a former police officer who left the force in disgrace after an affair. He now works divorce cases, using his wife Hazel to stage compromising situations that give clients grounds to separate. During one such job, Hazel and the client she was with are both found dead, and Tony becomes the leading suspect in the killings. While the police investigation closes in, he also becomes involved with Angeline, a woman connected to the dead man, and tries to clear his name.

Simon Moore wrote and directed the film, which was produced by Brian Eastman and released in September 1991. It was Moore's first feature as director, arriving after several years of television writing. Liam Neeson plays Tony, with Laura San Giacomo as Angeline, Kenneth Cranham as Tony's former colleague Frank Vance, and Maggie O'Neill as Hazel. Alphonsia Emmanuel and Stephen Moore appear among a credited cast of thirty-five.

Made on a budget of about six million dollars through Columbia Pictures with Carnival Films, LWT and The Rank Organisation, the film drew a mixed response. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from around 5,700 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.9 from roughly 127 votes. A critics' score of 4.8 from eight reviews places it below both audience figures.
