Hail, Caesar!
Short description
Set in 1950s Hollywood, Hail, Caesar! follows Eddie Mannix, a studio fixer at Capitol Pictures whose job is to keep the studio's stars out of scandal. His already busy day grows more complicated when Baird Whitlock, the lead actor in the studio's costly Roman epic, vanishes during production. Mannix has to track him down before the press gets wind of it, while also handling a director unhappy with his new leading man and religious groups worried about how the studio's Technicolor Bible adaptation will be received.
Joel and Ethan Coen wrote and directed the film, their nineteenth feature, following Inside Llewyn Davis and preceding The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Josh Brolin plays Mannix, with George Clooney as Whitlock, Alden Ehrenreich as Hobie Doyle, Ralph Fiennes as Laurence Laurentz, Scarlett Johansson as DeeAnna Moran and Tilda Swinton as twin gossip columnists. The large production credits 98 cast members and 137 crew. Made for 22 million dollars, it took 64 million worldwide.
Audience responses were moderate: on IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from 150,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9 out of 10 from about 4,000 votes. A critics' rating of 7.2 out of 10 from 359 reviews places professional reception noticeably above the viewer scores.
