Crossing Delancey

Isabelle Grossman is a single woman in her early thirties living in New York. She works in a bookstore, moves easily among the city's literary circles, and values her independence, which her grandmother Bubbie would rather see her give up in favour of marriage. Bubbie turns to a matchmaker, Hannah Mandelbaum, and the man she proposes is Sam Posner, who sells pickles for a living. Isabelle is drawn instead to Anton Maes, a married writer whose worldly manner appeals to her. The film follows her as she weighs the appeal of the author against the unglamorous steadiness of Sam.

Crossing Delancey was released in August 1988 and runs 97 minutes. Joan Micklin Silver directed it from a screenplay by Susan Sandler, with Michael Nozik producing for Warner Bros. Pictures.
