Identity

Ten strangers take shelter from a violent rainstorm at a remote desert motel, among them a limousine driver, an actress, a police officer transporting a dangerous prisoner, a young woman working as a sex worker, newlyweds and a family in crisis. When the guests begin to die one after another, it becomes clear the storm has left them trapped with a murderer among them, and the survivors turn on one another as they search for the killer's motive. It gradually emerges that their presence at the motel is not a coincidence.

James Mangold directed the film, the fifth of the thirteen he has directed to date, following Kate & Leopold and preceding Walk the Line. Michael Cooney wrote the screenplay, and Cathy Konrad produced. The cast includes John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Amanda Peet, John Hawkes, Alfred Molina and Clea DuVall, with twenty-two credited cast members and forty-two credited crew members.

Produced by Columbia Pictures and Konrad Pictures, the film had a budget of 28 million dollars and took in 90 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 out of 10 from 291,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.2 out of 10 from 4,542 votes, indicating a generally favorable audience response. A film critics' rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 168 reviews places critical reception somewhat below the viewer scores.
