Jake is a young entrepreneur whose company collapses just as it is about to launch. His professional life in tatters and his personal life not much better, he leaves Manhattan and moves in with his pregnant sister Justine, her husband Danny and their three-year-old son in the suburbs where he grew up. There he ends up looking after his nephew during the week, taking on a role he is not prepared for, and the arrangement forces him to consider what being responsible actually means.
Adult Beginners is a comedy drama directed by Ross Katz, his second feature after Taking Chance and before The Choice. Jeff Cox and Liz Flahive wrote the screenplay, and Nick Kroll, Jared Ian Goldman and Paul Bernon produced. Kroll plays Jake, with Rose Byrne as Justine, Bobby Cannavale as Danny, Joel McHale as Hudson, Caitlin FitzGerald as Kat and Bobby Moynihan as Paul among a credited cast of twenty-one.
The film runs 90 minutes. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 5.7/10 from 78 reviews, while on TMDB its audience rating is 5.4/10 from 209 votes.
