Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead is an Australian action horror film set during a zombie outbreak. Barry, a mechanic, sees his ordinary family life collapse as the dead begin to rise. When a group of masked soldiers abducts his sister Brooke for the experiments of a deranged doctor, Barry sets out across the bushland to find her. Along the way he joins forces with Benny, another survivor, and the two arm themselves for the fights ahead.
The film marks the feature debut of director Kiah Roache-Turner, who wrote the screenplay with his brother Tristan, the producer. It is the first entry in a series that continued with Nekrotronic, Wyrmwood: Apocalypse, Sting and Beast of War. Jay Gallagher plays Barry, with Bianca Bradey as Brooke, Leon Burchill as Benny, Luke McKenzie as the Captain, Yurech Covich as Chalker and Catherine Terracini as Annie, among a credited cast of 47.
Released in 2014, the film runs 98 minutes and mixes horror with action and dark comedy. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from around 19,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from roughly 528 votes, indicating a modest but durable following. A critics' score of 6.3 from 38 reviews places it slightly above the audience averages.
