The Family Fang

Caleb and Camille Fang are performance artists whose provocative pieces have long made their children part of the act. Now grown, Annie and Baxter have drifted away from their parents and from each other, carrying the effects of a childhood spent on display. When the couple vanishes, the siblings return to the family home to look for them. The circumstances suggest something serious has happened, but Annie suspects their parents have staged the disappearance as another elaborate work of art. Searching through memories of their upbringing, the brother and sister try to work out what really became of Caleb and Camille.

The film is Jason Bateman's second turn as director, following Bad Words in 2013. He also stars as Baxter, with Nicole Kidman as Annie; the two share producing credits with James Garavente, and the screenplay is by David Lindsay-Abaire. Christopher Walken and Maryann Plunkett play Caleb and Camille, and the cast includes Marin Ireland and Kathryn Hahn as a younger Camille. Made for about 10 million dollars, the film drew modest audiences. On IMDb it holds 6.1 from roughly 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 from about 350 votes. A critics' rating of 6.7 from 82 reviews places professional response somewhat above the general audience scores.
