Spooks: The Greater Good follows a prisoner transfer in London that goes badly wrong when the terrorist Adem Qasim is broken out of MI5 custody. Harry Pearce, the veteran head of counter-terrorism, takes the blame and is pushed out, then vanishes, apparently into the Thames. With the service reeling and Qasim preparing an attack on the city, the former agent Will Holloway is brought back to work out what happened to his old mentor and where his loyalties now lie. The film is based on the BBC television series Spooks, also known as MI-5.
Bharat Nalluri directed, working from a screenplay by Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent. It was his fourth feature, between Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and The Man Who Invented Christmas. Peter Firth reprises his television role as Pearce, with Kit Harington as Holloway, Elyes Gabel as Qasim, and Jennifer Ehle, Tim McInnerny and Tuppence Middleton in support. The production came from BBC Film, Shine Pictures, Kudos and Isle of Man Film, and it took about 5 million dollars worldwide.
Audience reaction was moderate: on IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 across roughly 25,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from around 647 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 39 reviews sits slightly below the audience scores.
