Full Out tells the story of Ariana Berlin, a young California gymnast who has spent years training with her sights set on the Olympics. That path is interrupted when a serious car accident leaves her badly injured, and she is told she will not return to the sport at her former level. She rebuilds her confidence and her control of her own body through hip hop dance, which gradually brings her back toward gymnastics. A meeting with coach Valorie Kondos Field, who leads the program at UCLA, gives her a route back into competition and the chance to chase a goal she had not given up on.
The film is directed by Sean Cisterna, his first feature, made before Kiss and Cry and a run of later titles. Willem Wennekers wrote the screenplay, with Cisterna producing alongside Jeff Deverett and Jay Deverett. Ana Golja plays Ariana, Jennifer Beals plays Kondos Field, and the cast includes Asha Bromfield, Trevor Tordjman, Jake Epstein and Ramona Milano. It was produced in Canada by Carmel Creek Productions on a budget of about 2 million dollars.
Released in September 2015, the film runs 94 minutes. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.2 out of 10 from roughly 349 votes, a modest but positive response from viewers.
