Open the Wall

This comedy-drama focuses on the events at the Bornholmer Straße border crossing in Berlin during the final hours of the GDR. The story follows Lieutenant Colonel Harald Schäfer and his colleagues as they face a growing crowd of citizens demanding to leave East Berlin. While the guards wait for orders from their superiors, the situation becomes increasingly tense, forcing Schäfer to make a decision that deviates from official instructions.

Directed by Christian Schwochow, this 2014 production was the first in a series of films that included The German Lesson, Munich - The Edge of War, and Je suis Karl.
