Short description
Leah Vaughn, a successful lobbyist in her mid-thirties, believes her life is on track: her career is thriving and she is ready to marry and start a family with Dave, her boyfriend of long standing. Dave does not share that plan, and the relationship ends painfully. Soon afterward Leah meets Carter Duncan, a charming stranger who quickly becomes part of her life and wins over those around her. The new romance seems ideal until Carter's protectiveness reveals a darker, controlling side, and breaking things off does not end the connection.
The Perfect Guy is a 2015 American drama and thriller directed by David M. Rosenthal, following his 2013 film A Single Shot in the director's filmography. Tyger Williams wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Sanaa Lathan as Leah, Michael Ealy as Carter and Morris Chestnut as Dave, with Kathryn Morris, Holt McCallany and Rutina Wesley in supporting roles.
Made for about 12 million dollars, the film took roughly 60 million dollars worldwide, a strong return relative to its production budget. Audience response has been middling: it holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 12,000 votes, and 5.7 out of 10 on TMDB from 344 votes, while critics were less receptive, giving it 4 out of 10 across 43 reviews.
