A Kind of Murder

A Kind of Murder is set in New York in the 1960s, where Walter Stackhouse is a successful architect in an outwardly comfortable but unhappy marriage to Clara. His growing fixation on an unsolved case, the killing of a bookseller's wife whose husband was suspected, pulls him toward a man named Kimmel. As Walter's own marriage deteriorates, his interest in the crime and in the man suspected of it draws the attention of an ambitious detective, and the boundary between what Walter imagines and what he might be capable of becomes hard to trace.

The film was directed by Andy Goddard, the first of the two features he has directed to date, from a screenplay by Susan Boyd. Patrick Wilson plays Walter and Jessica Biel plays Clara, with Haley Bennett as the jazz singer Ellie Briess, Eddie Marsan as Marty Kimmel and Vincent Kartheiser among the supporting cast; forty-two performers and 169 crew members are credited. Christine Vachon, Ted Hope and Kelly McCormick produced for Killer Films.

Released in December 2016 and running 96 minutes, the crime drama holds a rating of 5.4 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 260 votes, while critics' reviews average 4.9 out of 10, indicating a mixed response from both audiences and reviewers.
