Mississippi Grind

Gerry, a compulsive gambler weighed down by debt, has long been on a losing streak. When he meets Curtis, a younger and more charismatic poker player, the two strike up a friendship, and Gerry talks him into a road trip toward a high-stakes game in New Orleans. Their journey down the Mississippi takes them through bars, racetracks, casinos and pool halls, with wins and losses along the way, and the bond between them deepening as they travel.

Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden directed the film and wrote the screenplay; it followed their earlier features Half Nelson, Sugar and It's Kind of a Funny Story, and preceded Captain Marvel and Freaky Tales. Ben Mendelsohn plays Gerry and Ryan Reynolds plays Curtis, with Sienna Miller, Lio Tipton, Alfre Woodard and James Toback among the supporting cast. The production had a budget of about 7 million dollars.
