Grandma

Elle Reid is a poet and academic who has cut herself off from most of the people in her life, content to live alone. Her routine is interrupted when her eighteen-year-old granddaughter Sage arrives at her door needing help. Sage is pregnant and has an appointment at a clinic later that day, but she does not have the money to pay for it. Because Elle has destroyed her credit cards, the two set off together to raise the sum from old friends and former partners, turning the errand into a journey across Los Angeles that forces Elle to revisit relationships she had abandoned and pushes Sage to think about what comes next.

Paul Weitz wrote, directed and produced the film, the tenth of thirteen features he has directed, following Admission and preceding Bel Canto. Lily Tomlin plays Elle, with Julia Garner as Sage, Marcia Gay Harden as Sage's mother Judy, Judy Greer as Olivia and Elizabeth Peña as Carla, among a credited cast of twenty-six. The film runs seventy-eight minutes and was released in June 2015.

Made by Depth of Field and 1821 Pictures, it took about seven million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.7 out of 10 from roughly eighteen thousand votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.4 from around four hundred. A critics' rating of 7.5 from 171 reviews places it above both audience scores.
