Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale - Part 2: The Rainbow Bridge

Set in Taiwan under Japanese colonial rule, this second instalment follows Mona Rudao and his Seediq followers after their uprising at Wushe. Facing a Japanese military campaign and opposition from rival Seediq clans, the group turns to guerrilla warfare in the mountains, fighting to defend their dignity and their standing as true men. The film is the second half of a two-part, roughly four-hour Taiwanese edition of the larger Warriors of the Rainbow project.

The film was directed by Wei Te-sheng, who also wrote the screenplay, with John Woo and Terence Chang among its producers. It followed his debut Cape No. 7 and the first part, The Sun Flag, both released in 2011, and preceded the 2012 consolidated Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale. The cast includes Nolay Piho as Mona Rudao, Umin Boya as Temu Walis, Masanobu Ando as Genji Kojima, Sabu Kawahara as General Yahiko Kamada, Vivian Hsu and Irene Luo.

Made for about 25 million US dollars, it took roughly 29 million worldwide, a modest return against its cost. On TMDB it holds 8.1 out of 10 from 93 votes, indicating a small but strongly favourable audience response.
