Cosmos follows two young men who arrive at a family guesthouse in the Portuguese countryside hoping for a quiet break. Witold has just failed his law exams, while Fuchs has walked away from a job at a Paris fashion company. Almost immediately, odd things begin to accumulate around them: dead birds and other objects hung in the trees, strange marks on walls and in the garden, and residents and staff whose behaviour seems increasingly hard to read. Witold becomes infatuated with a young woman staying there, though she has recently married an architect. The visitors start reading the scattered signs as part of a pattern, and that conviction pulls them further into the life of the house.
The film is directed by Andrzej Żuławski, who also wrote the screenplay, adapting Witold Gombrowicz's novel. It was produced by Paulo Branco and shot in Portugal and France. Its cast includes Jonathan Genet as Witold, Johan Libéreau as Fuchs, Sabine Azéma as Madame Woytis, Jean-François Balmer, Victoria Guerra and Andy Gillet.
Cosmos was released in December 2015 and runs 102 minutes. It followed Fidelity (2000) in Żuławski's filmography, the fifth feature he directed. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.7 from around 2,300 votes; on TMDB it stands at 6.5 from roughly 95 votes.
