Miles Ahead

Miles Ahead centers on Miles Davis during a period when the trumpeter has withdrawn from recording and performing. Living as a recluse in New York, he struggles with chronic hip pain, drugs and alcohol, and memories of his marriage to dancer Frances Taylor. A music journalist, Dave Braden, pushes his way into Davis's home hoping for a story, and the two men form an uneasy partnership as they try to recover a stolen recording of the musician's recent work. The film moves between this episode and earlier moments in Davis's life and career.

Don Cheadle directed the film, his first feature behind the camera, and wrote the screenplay with Steven Baigelman. Cheadle also stars as Davis, with Ewan McGregor as Braden, Emayatzy Corinealdi as Frances Taylor, Michael Stuhlbarg as Harper Hamilton and LaKeith Stanfield as Junior, among a credited cast of 41. The film had a worldwide box office of about 3 million USD.
