Hyena Road follows three men whose lives intersect in the murky moral landscape of modern warfare in Afghanistan. Pete is an intelligence officer with the Canadian Army who finds himself drawn into a conspiracy surrounding a killing. Ryan is a sniper who has never thought of his targets as human beings until he forms a connection with one of them. The third is a veteran mujahideen fighter who had turned away from combat, only to be pulled back into the middle of the conflict. A Canadian general, meanwhile, is pushing to build a road through the country in an effort to defeat the Taliban.
The film was directed by Paul Gross, who also wrote the screenplay and plays Pete. It is his second feature as director, following Passchendaele in 2008. The cast includes Rossif Sutherland as Ryan, Clark Johnson as General Rilmen, Allan Hawco as Travis, Christine Horne as Jennifer and Jennifer Pudavick as Mary. Niv Fichman and Gross produced, and the production involved several Canadian companies.
Released in October 2015, the film runs 120 minutes and blends action, drama, thriller and war. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.5 out of 10 from 23 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 277 votes.
