Bambi follows a young deer born in a forest clearing one spring morning, the new prince of the woodland. As he grows, he learns to walk and talk and befriends a lively rabbit named Thumper and a shy skunk called Flower. He also meets Faline, a young doe who becomes important to him. The film traces how Bambi moves from one season to the next, encountering both the beauty of the forest and the dangers that lie within it, above all the threat posed by humans. After losing his mother to hunters, he must find his own way, guided by the forest's great stag and by his companions.
Walt Disney Productions released this animated feature on August 14, 1942, running 70 minutes. David Hand directed, with Walt Disney as producer. The film came after Hand's work on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia and other Disney shorts. The voice cast, none of whom were credited on screen, includes Donnie Dunagan as young Bambi, Peter Behn as young Thumper, Stan Alexander as young Flower, Cammie King as young Faline, Will Wright as Friend Owl and Hardie Albright as adolescent Bambi.
The film earned 267 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.3 out of 10 from 164,000 votes, and on TMDB 7 out of 10 from 6,138 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 8.5 out of 10 from 55 reviews.
