Short description
In a near-future society, advanced artificial organs from a company called the Union allow people to extend their lives, with the cost paid off over time. Those who fall behind on their payments receive a visit from specially trained agents who take the organs back, regardless of what happens to the patient. Remy is one of the most effective of these agents, until he suffers a heart attack on the job and wakes up with a top-of-the-line mechanical heart and a substantial debt attached to it. When he can no longer keep up with the payments, the Union sends his former partner Jake after him, turning the man who once hunted debtors into the one being hunted.
The film is directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who follows it with Finch in 2021, and written by Garrett Lerner. Jude Law plays Remy, with Forest Whitaker as Jake, Liev Schreiber as Frank, Alice Braga as Beth, Carice van Houten as Carol and Liza Lapira as Alva. It was produced by Scott Stuber and Mary Parent and released in March 2010.
Made for about 32 million dollars, the film returned roughly 18 million worldwide, a result well short of its production cost. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 across 114,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.3, based on 2,187 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 153 reviews places it noticeably below the audience scores.

- In the film, the protagonist tells a story about a cat that was “both alive and dead.” Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment proposed by one of the creators of quantum mechanics, Erwin Schrödinger, in 1935.
- Forest Whitaker studied the Filipino martial art of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali under masters Dan Inosanto and Richard Bustillo (1942-2017) for several years. He applies the skills he acquired in this way in some fight scenes.
