Adolf Hitler wakes up in present-day Berlin, decades after the end of the Second World War, with no idea how he got there or what has happened since 1945. He has no party, no followers, no money and nowhere to live, and the Germany he encounters is at peace, led by Angela Merkel and home to thousands of immigrants. Because everyone assumes he must be a comedian or a method actor rather than the real dictator, he is able to move through the country unrecognised for who he is. As he tours the new Germany and vents his views on television, his outbursts become a viral internet sensation, turning him into a modern celebrity. David Wnendt directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Mizzi Meyer.

The film is a satirical comedy based on Timur Vermes's novel of the same name, and it uses a mockumentary style to record how ordinary Germans react to him. Oliver Masucci plays Hitler, with Fabian Busch, Christoph Maria Herbst, Katja Riemann, Franziska Wulf and Lars Rudolph among the credited cast of sixty-five. It was produced by Christoph Müller and Lars Dittrich for Constantin Film, Mythos Film and Claussen+Wöbke Filmproduktion.

Made for around 3 million dollars, the film took about 26 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 7 out of 10 from roughly 54,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.8 out of 10 from nearly 2,000 votes. It was Wnendt's first directorial feature, preceding Sun and Concrete in 2023 and Athos 2643 in 2027.
