Mickey One

Mickey One is a 1965 American crime drama about a stand-up comedian who goes into hiding after falling foul of the mob in Detroit. Unable or unwilling to explain what he did to provoke them, he takes a new name and settles in Chicago, where he gradually rebuilds a career on the local club circuit. The trouble is that his past does not stay put, and the fear of being found follows him even as his fortunes improve.

The film was directed by Arthur Penn, who also produced it from a screenplay by Alan M. Surgal. It sits between The Miracle Worker and The Chase in Penn's filmography. Warren Beatty plays the lead, with Alexandra Stewart, Hurd Hatfield, Franchot Tone, Teddy Hart and Jeff Corey among the credited cast of 39. It was made by Florin Productions and Tatira.
