Short description

Krrish is an Indian science fiction action film directed by Rakesh Roshan and released in 2006. It follows Krishna, a young man who has inherited extraordinary abilities from his father, Rohit, whose own powers came from an encounter with an alien visitor. Raised in seclusion by his grandmother Sonia, Krishna falls for a woman named Priya and follows her to Singapore. There he is drawn into a confrontation with the scientist Dr. Siddhant Arya, whose ambitions force Krishna to adopt the masked identity of Krrish.

The film is a sequel to Koi... Mil Gaya, which Roshan directed in 2003, and it precedes Krrish 3 in the same series. Hrithik Roshan plays Krishna as well as his father Rohit, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Priya, Rekha as Sonia, and Naseeruddin Shah as the antagonist Arya. The screenplay was written by Robin Bhatt, Honey Irani and Sachin Bhowmick, and Roshan also produced.

Made on a budget of about 5 million dollars, the film took roughly 16 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 28,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.5 from 299 votes. A critics' rating of 6.3 from 8 reviews places it close to the audience scores. At 174 minutes, it is a long action spectacle, with Hong Kong action choreography and extensive visual effects supporting its superhero premise.

What's left behind the scenes

  • While performing a stunt on set, Hrithik Roshan injured a tendon in his right leg. Doctors prescribed complete rest and bed rest for two weeks, but the actor was back on set after just two days. Roshan decided to continue filming, taking painkillers. In the same scene, his character was supposed to run through a wall of fire. The actor severely burned his hair.
  • Film director Rakesh Roshan invited Mark Colbe and Craig Mummu, Hollywood special effects masters who worked on films such as "Independence Day", "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow", and "Godzilla", to participate in the film's production.
