Galaxina

In the year 3008, an intergalactic police cruiser patrols the galaxy under the command of the inept Captain Cornelius Butt. Among its crew is Galaxina, a lifelike android assigned to oversee the ship's operations. The pilot, Sergeant Thor, is drawn to her. When the crew is ordered to travel to a distant planet and retrieve a rare mineral, they are placed in suspended animation for what turns out to be decades, leaving Galaxina alone at the controls. During that long stretch she changes herself, learning to speak so she can communicate with Thor when he wakes.

William Sachs wrote and directed this science fiction comedy, which followed his 1977 film The Incredible Melting Man and preceded Hot Chili in 1985. Dorothy Stratten plays the title android, with Stephen Macht as Thor and Avery Schreiber as the captain, among a credited cast of 28. Produced by Crown International Pictures and Marimark Productions, the film had a budget of 6 million dollars and returned 5 million worldwide, so it did not recover its cost. On TMDB it holds a rating of 3.9 out of 10 from 89 votes.
