Short description
A police detective named Scott Galban investigates the mysterious death of his partner. As he searches for the killer, Galban discovers evidence of corruption involving his former colleague. While seeking witnesses, he encounters Isabel, a young Latina woman who witnessed the crime and claims to have seen a miracle. Isabel begins experiencing strange occurrences, and she becomes the only person who can help the detective resolve the case after other potential witnesses die.
Directed and written by Gee Malik Linton, the film features Keanu Reeves in the lead role alongside Ana de Armas, Mira Sorvino, Christopher McDonald, Laura Gómez, and Sandy Tejada. Reeves also served as a producer on the project, which was produced by Lionsgate, EFO Films, PalmStar Media, and Remark Films in the United States.
Released in 2016, the crime thriller received a mixed to negative reception from viewers and critics. It holds a rating of 4.4/10 on IMDb based on 18,000 votes and a 4.9/10 on TMDB from 596 votes. These audience scores are higher than the rating provided by film critics, which stands at 2.9/10 from 25 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film was directed by Guy Malik Linton, although in the credits he is listed under the pseudonym Declan Dale. This was done at the director's own insistence.
- The director's cut of the film was edited by Hervé de Luz, who had worked with Roman Polanski for many years. It was a surreal story about a Latin American woman who had been subjected to violence as a child. 70% of the dialogue in this version was in Spanish.
- Work on the film starring Natalie Kelley was supposed to begin as early as 2009, but for a number of reasons, it did not happen.
- The film is called Exposed in English, although the original title was "Daughter of God".
- This is the second joint project of Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas. In 2015, Eli Roth's thriller "Knock Knock" was released, starring Reeves and de Armas.
