The Siege of Jadotville

The Siege of Jadotville tells the story of an Irish United Nations peacekeeping unit sent to the Congo in 1961, shortly after the country gained independence from Belgium. Commandant Pat Quinlan leads roughly 150 soldiers to the mining town of Jadotville, where they are surrounded by a far larger force of Congolese troops and French and Belgian mercenaries working for mining interests. The small contingent holds out under heavy attack while awaiting support that is slow to arrive. The film is based on a real episode and draws on the political turmoil of the period, including the role of mining companies and the United Nations mission.

Richie Smyth directed, working from a screenplay by Kevin Brodbin, who also produced alongside Alan Moloney and Ted Sarandos. Jamie Dornan plays Quinlan, with Guillaume Canet, Mark Strong, Jason O'Mara, Michael McElhatton and Mikael Persbrandt among the credited cast of 24. The film runs 108 minutes and was released in 2016.
