Ice Castles

Alexis Winston is a young skater with talent and ambition, training in a small-town rink under a coach who sees a future for her in the sport. Her father, Marcus, a widower, is reluctant at first, and her boyfriend Nick has his own commitments, having set aside his studies for a hockey career. When Alexis is noticed by a coach who works with top-level champions, she leaves her hometown and the people closest to her to pursue the sport seriously. A tragic fall on the ice costs her her sight, putting everything she has worked for in doubt. Nick and her family stand by her as she tries to find a way back to the rink.

This is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name, and Donald Wrye directed both versions. The 2010 film is the third feature he directed, following Born Innocent in 1976 and the earlier Ice Castles. Taylor Firth plays Lexi, with Rob Mayes as Nick, Henry Czerny as Marcus, Morgan Kelly as Aiden, Tattiawna Jones as Melissa and Eve Crawford as Aunt Jane. The production was handled by Stage 6 Films, RCR Media Group, Howard Braunstein Films and Jaffe/Braunstein Films, with Michael Mahoney producing, and it runs 95 minutes.

The film has a modest reception, with a rating of 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 2,700 votes, and 6.3 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller group of 83 voters.
