The Layover

Two longtime friends, Meg and Kate, are each stuck in a rough patch in their personal lives when they decide to get away together and leave their troubles behind. Their plans go off course when a storm warning forces their flight to be diverted, stranding them in St. Louis for an extended layover. On the plane they meet Ryan, who ends up sitting between them, and during the delay both women set their sights on him, turning their friendship into a rivalry.

William H. Macy directed the film, the second feature he made after Rudderless and before Krystal. David Hornsby and Lance Krall wrote the screenplay, and Keith Kjarval and Aaron L. Gilbert produced. Kate Upton plays Meg and Alexandra Daddario plays Kate, with Matt Barr as Ryan and supporting turns from Matt Jones, Kal Penn and Michael Benyaer among a credited cast of forty. The production was handled by Universal Pictures with Bron Studios, Creative Wealth Media Finance and Unified Pictures.

Released in 2017 and running eighty-eight minutes, the comedy was not well received. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.8 from around eighteen thousand votes, and on TMDB it sits at 5.4 from roughly seven hundred votes. A critics' rating of 2.1 from eighteen reviews places it well below even those modest audience scores.
